Leuven In Scene

This weekend Leuven featured the street theater festival Leuven in Scene. Absolutely fabulous. The grand finale was by the French pyrotechnic crew Les Commandos Percu. If they ever visit a place near you, do go and have a look, you won’t regret it!

Canon 450D RAW & Ubuntu Hardy

If you’ve been trying to develop a Canon EOS 450D RAW file using ufraw on the latest Ubuntu release, you might have run into something like this:

While we could wait until this lands through the new dcraw (bug opened), some of us want to develop pictures now.

For those, I’ve built a patched ufraw. It’s retrievable through my Ubuntu PPA. Enjoy!

The long wait is over, Canon just announced the EOS 450D. I’m getting one as soon as possible.

Interestingly, it uses Secure Digital instead of the usual CompactFlash cards. Does this mean we are seeing the beginning of the end of CF, or is it just Canons clever way of luring existing EOS 400D users (who have a stack of CF cards) into a higher price category?

I just launched the new photo.savanne.be. It’s still rough on the edges and I’m not sure if everything still works.

I didn’t plan to launch it this soon, but after I accidently deleted the old version, I figured it was time. We all have our not-so-bright moments.

Books

Books, I read a lot of them. Thin books, think books. Very technical books and sometimes very dreamy ones. Usually not worth mentioning.

But now I’ve encountered one I do want to mention. The newest photo book of Michiel Hendryckx: Het mooiste licht is tegenlicht (loosely translatable as The prettiest light is backlighting). Michiel shows you about one hundred of his pictures, together with the story behind the picture. Stubborn and sometimes touching. Enjoyed it very much.
