Here's the best question to ask what were the preferences of the existing sysadmins for the gnome project in the dvcs survey. If GNOME is currently relying on volunteer sysadmins who are primarily bzr users, then the situation makes some sense. Relying on volunteers for all IT infrastructure services means relying heavily on those individuals personal preferences in what technologies are implemented. For better or for worse, that's how it works.

Does GNOME need a dedicated paid infrastructure manager who can be tasked by the GNOME Foundation to lead a git environment conversion? Part of that leadership role would be to recruit and sustain a community of infrastructure volunteers whose skills and experience are aligned with the GNOME infrastructure roadmap needs.

I think its a case that the sysadmins in question don't want to use git and as they're not being paid don't want to do the work for something they don't want no matter what public opinion wants
